‘Machine Learning’ Can Protect You From Phishing Attacks Says Google

Machine Artifical Intelligence RobotAccording to a recent blog post by Google’s Senior Product Manager of Counter Abuse Technology Andy Wen, AI machine learning technology was recently used successfully on the Google’s Gmail service, and reportedly blocked 99.9% of all phishing attempts that it detected.

What Is Phishing?

Phishing emails are a well-known and widely used fraudulent practice, which relies upon human error by sending emails, purporting to be from reputable companies, in order to induce individuals to reveal personal information, or to take other action such as wiring money to the apparent sender.

The revolutionary new system was created by Created by CMU Ph.D. student Yang Zhang and works using a technique known as electric field tomography (EFT), which exploits the interaction of a high-frequency electric field with a conductive medium.

How Does It Work?

In short, a surface or object is coated with a spray-paint application of carbon conducting paint. N.B. whole, solid or pliable objects can also be cast / moulded from carbon-conductive material (a mixture of carbon fibre and conventional silicone).

In an age when people are living longer, healthcare systems and resources are being strained, with elderly people facing challenges like loneliness, more research is being carried out into how robots could bridge the care gap.

The global population is ageing. In the UK alone for example, people are having fewer children and living longer lives. By 2040, nearly one in seven people is projected to be aged over 75 (UK Government figures) and this will mean that public spending will need to increase, and already stretched care systems will be under unprecedented pressures. Meeting the caring and or nursing needs of the elderly, as well as addressing companionship issues, are likely to be major issues facing us all in years to come. Self-Flying Taxi Over Dubai From July, Oh My!

Drone, Taxi, Flight, flying, flying taxiAccording to the head of Dubai’s Roads and Transportation Agency, passengers could be able to use a self-flying drone taxi from as early as July this year.

One-Person Drone Taxi Already Tested Over Dubai.

The Ehang 184, electric-powered, pilotless ‘taxi’ drone is reported to have already been tested over the skies of Dubai. The four-propellered, pod-shaped vehicle is able to transport one passenger and their bag (weighing not more than 100 kilograms / 220 pounds in total) on a journey of up to 23 minutes duration on a single charge. Charging the drone’s battery up between journeys reportedly takes up to 2 hours.

The 30 technology firms, who have just signed a brief opposing the immigration ban, join 97 others who have already filed a legal document objecting to the ban because they believe that the ban will not only harm their businesses, but that it could also be unconstitutional.

Amazon Warehouse In The Sky

blimp-sunsetNews has surfaced of a patent that’s reported to have been filed by Amazon back in December 2014 for a flying warehouse, or airborne fulfilment centre (AFC), that can use unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) to deliver items to users.

The patent has been recently unearthed and reported via Twitter by analyst Zoe Leavitt from CB Insights, who described the idea as ‘the Death Star of ecommerce”.

Obama Orders Election Review After Cyber Attacks

After public accusations against Russia concerning cyber attacks against Democratic Party organisations in the recent U.S. presidential election, President Barack Obama has ordered a full intelligence agency review.

Back in October, Russia was formally accused by the U.S. government of launching cyber attacks against Democratic Party organisations during the 2016 election campaign. Since Donald Trump’s election as President on November 8th, and following his praising Putin and public dismissal of the idea of Putin and Russia’s influence or interference, the matter has snowballed into a global news story and has become the focus of Democrats’ anger and suspicion.
