Case Study to upgrade the IT infrastructure at Imageco Visual Imaging Ltd
Imageco are one of the leading companies in the UK for large format printing for exhibitions and retail. The company started in Leeds in 2001 and acquired a business data server in 2005. Since then the company has grown steadily so that by 2014 they had acquired five data servers and various power vaults for storing the ever growing data. There was no formal folder structure, nor any backup procedure for backing up the company data. Imageco had an ageing mix of iMacs, PCs and laptops for the twenty individual users in the company.
Organisations know that technology can improve employee productivity. Knowing when and what to invest in can be far more challenging; due to rapid changes in technology.
‘There had been general underinvestment for a number of years, with incremental additions to the system,’ explains Nathan Swinson-Bullough (Joint Managing Director). ‘Our network was very flaky. Some of our software was outdated, and some was bespoke to our software provider at that time. We had five very old servers that just about handled the workload between them. Speed was an issue, as was reliability. The whole thing needed an overhaul.’
IDT discussed at length the various options available and prepared a quotation with a number of alternative solutions.
The agreed solution was for IDT to supply two new HP servers with two Synology Network Attached Storage units providing an additional16TB of data storage. All the programs and data on the existing servers were consolidated, virtualised and duplicated on the servers providing a robust and resilient server solution for years to come.
The data was backed up using Veeam replication software to Netgear ReadyNAS drives and replicated off site, via the internet, to an identical ReadyNAS. This solution gives the highest Disaster Recovery protection, with no individual becoming responsible for the backup procedure and at a very cost effective price.
The PCs were all upgraded with Hewlett Packard desktops with Microsoft Windows 7 operating platform and the Exchange 2003 email database was migrated to the cloud based Microsoft Office 365 Exchange 2013 for email.
We also advised Imageco on the upgrade of their broadband to a wireless broadband solution giving them superfast broadband from leased lines at the fraction of the cost of a normal leased line.
The new computer network has improved the whole infrastructure of the company with minimal downtime, super fast network and internet connection, with the knowledge that the company data is secure and protected.
“We have been dealing with IDT for our major IT needs along with another company for our MIS software. We have always found IDT helpful in every way and nothing is too much trouble and response time is almost immediate. The staff are always friendly and helpful and will tell you in terms you can understand what the problems are and how they are going to fix them. I have no hesitation at all in recommending IDT as an IT provider.”

Case study to move the company IT infrastructure, upgrade the equipment, upgrade the broadband and migrate the accounts system for Parkers Promotional Products Ltd
Parkers Promotional Products have been supplying promotional products since 1985 to both small and blue chip companies throughout the UK. Parkers pride themselves on providing an innovative range of promotional products with an outstanding response time and always keeping their promise on delivery dates. The computer network and the accounts program need to reflect the demands of this fast paced industry.
Parkers network server was installed in 2007 with Microsoft Small Business Server 2003 as the operating platform with a number of PCs using Microsoft XP operating system. The business uses Promos MIS software, an industry specific database, for controlling orders and jobs. The company accounts are produced using Pegasus Accounts software.
Financial Director Jane Parker explained “Our Pegasus accounts would not integrate with our customised job scheduling software and we needed someone to help us move to new accounts software and link the programs together. Rob at IDT understood what we were trying to achieve and prepared a schedule to migrate the accounts into Sage and also link both sales and purchases in Promos into Sage. I have to say the transition went really smoothly and the two products now talk to each other perfectly!”
Parkers wished to move to new modern premises, upgrade the computer network and broadband and integrate their Promos MIS and job scheduling software with Sage 50 accounts.
The move to new premises was carefully planned so that downtime to the company was kept to a minimum. The original equipment in the business was initially moved to the new premises and connected to a new fibre network to give the company superfast broadband. Once Parkers were established in the new premises, a new server was installed with Microsoft Server Essentials and the PCs were upgraded to Microsoft Windows 7 operating platform. Microsoft’s cloud based Office 365 Exchange was used for managing the company’s emails.
Sage 50 accountancy software was installed and the data from the old Pegasus software migrated into the Sage program. Time was spent designing the new accounts structure and report layouts. Finally, the IDT consultants along with the Promos team integrated the Invoicing and Purchase Order routine in the Promos software into Sage Accounts.
Parkers now have a robust and resilient computer network with the ability for expansion in the future, serving the company for many years to come.
Charles Parker the Managing Director commented “We have used IDT for more than ten years and have always found the IDT team knowledgeable and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble and it is great to find an IT support company that will go that extra mile for you. I trust IDT to look after my computers and would recommend them anytime.”
